Country music icon George Strait is set to receive one of Texas’s highest honors: induction into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame in early 2026. The announcement, made by the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association, confirms that Strait will be enshrined alongside fellow luminaries Miranda Lambert, Don Cook, and the late Keith Gattis.
The induction ceremony will take place during the 20th annual Hall of Fame Awards on February 21, 2026, hosted at the prestigious ACL Live venue in Austin. The event promises to span two days and will feature special performances, showcasing the deep cultural legacy of Texas songwriting.
George Strait, often dubbed “King George”, boasts a remarkable legacy. With over 110 million RIAA certifications, his storytelling through music has firmly established him as a pillar of country. Hits like “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” “Here for a Good Time,” and “The Weight of the Badge” underline his songwriting prowess as much as his voice.
Joining him in this prestigious class is Miranda Lambert, the most-awarded artist in ACM history, celebrated for chart-toppers like “Bluebird” and “Tin Man.” She represents the modern face of Texas songwriting, blending powerful narrative with emotional depth.
Don Cook, another inductee, carved his name into ‘90s country as both a writer and producer, delivering over 20 No. 1 hits and shaping hits for readers like Brooks & Dunn—13 of which reached the top of the charts.
The class also includes the late Keith Gattis, a songwriter whose influence extended across generations. Known for penning “El Cerrito Place,” Gattis worked with Kenny Chesney and contributed to songs for artists such as George Jones and Willie Nelson. His enduring impact will be warmly remembered.
This stellar roster reflects the Texan spirit of authenticity, resilience, and narrative grace—qualities that continue to define the masters of country songwriting.
