Petition Pushes for George Strait to Replace Bad Bunny at 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show
Following the NFL’s announcement that Latin music superstar Bad Bunny would headline the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in 2026, a petition has emerged online urging the league to reconsider — and replace him with country music legend George Strait.
The Petition: A Call for “American Values”
The petition, launched on Change.org by a user named Kar Shell, has already attracted more than 1,300 signatures. Titled with a plea for a more “family-friendly” halftime experience, the petition argues that the Super Bowl is meant to be a celebration of unity, American tradition, and cultural heritage — ideals that the petition’s creator claims are better embodied by George Strait than by Bad Bunny.
“The Super Bowl halftime show should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt. Bad Bunny represents none of these values,” the petition reads. “His drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage.”
The post continues by promoting Strait as the ideal alternative:
“George Strait embodies unity, tradition, and the timeless American music that truly deserves the 2026 Super Bowl spotlight.”
Online Support for George Strait
Supporters have echoed these sentiments in the petition’s comment section.
“George Strait is a country classic, 100x better than Bad Bunny,” one commenter wrote.
“Why would the Super Bowl in America, hosted by Americans, who most of which speak English, have a mainly Spanish singer? That makes no sense,” another user added. “Have the King of Country make this year’s Super Bowl 10x better than last year.”
Strait, 73, is widely regarded as one of the most successful country artists of all time, with over 60 No. 1 hits, 13 multi-platinum albums, and more than four decades of chart dominance. Many fans believe his inclusion would reflect a more traditional, “All-American” performance.
Other Petitions Gaining Steam
This is not the only campaign challenging the NFL’s decision. Another petition titled “Replace Bad Bunny in the Super Bowl Halftime Show” has already garnered over 10,000 signatures, although it does not suggest a specific replacement. These calls for change mirror previous public movements involving the Super Bowl. For example, a 2023 petition to have Donna Kelce perform the coin toss (ahead of her sons’ face-off in the big game) gained over 224,000 signatures, and in 2015, more than 70,000 fans petitioned for Metallica to headline the Halftime Show.
Bad Bunny’s Global Appeal
Despite the criticism, Bad Bunny remains one of the biggest music stars in the world. Born in Puerto Rico, the reggaeton and Latin trap artist boasts more than 50 million Instagram followers, and his hits — including “I Like It” and “Dákiti” — have topped charts globally. He has won three Grammy Awards and 12 Latin Grammys, and his influence continues to shape modern pop and Latin music.
His inclusion in the 2026 Halftime Show follows a growing trend of the NFL highlighting global diversity in its entertainment lineup, which in recent years has featured artists like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, and Rihanna.
